From the opening chords of the excellent “Johnny Pineapple” from Lunch’s four-song 7-inch of the same name, it’s apparent that this fearsome foursome aren’t interested in beating around the proverbial bush; more likely they’re peeing on it. And if that’s not fair, they’re at least honoring the kind of meandering punk-pop of forefathers like Buzzcocks and more contemporary post-punkers like McClusky. And that means that the band’s debut at PDX Pop is bound to be a gritty, rollicking affair you’ll punch yourself for missing. And you don’t wanna punch yourself, because that’s dumb.-RJP
