Imperium, Blouse’s 2013 LP, was one of the best regional releases of that year, pitting the mesmerizing, Nico-like vocal presence of Charlie Hilton with a songwriting regimen much more concerned with guitar-forward calisthenics than its predecessor. Helmed by Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Jacob Portrait, the band’s explorations include forays into psychedelic synapses just this side of chill-wave; something more closely resembling a lo-fi Pixies on Quaaludes, or a regular-fi Vaselines on hot tea and kale salad. They’re fantastic. -RJP
