PDX Pop Now! 2010 Board of Directors

PDX Pop Now! is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Each board member is responsible for overseeing a particular facet of the organization, including but not limited to Logistics, Fundraising/Sponsorship, Grants, Outreach, Booking, Compilation, Tech/Web, Volunteer Coordination, Communications and Design. In this regard our Board operates in the capacity of a rotating volunteer staff. Below are brief biographies for lead PDX Pop Now! 2010 board members/staff.

Ben Kubany, Grants Coordinator was introduced to PDX Pop Now! by former Booking and Volunteer Coordinator, Elizabeth Dannen after the two had worked together programming concerts while attending Whitman College. Graduating in 2005, Ben moved to Portland a year later, where he has since been employed by Sterling Talent as an Associate Agent. In 2008 he volunteered as a member of the Booking Committee before assisting former Grants Coordinator, Scott Goodwin, with grant editing/writing in 2009.

Benna Gottfried, Communications Coordinator works in development and marketing for a local social services non-profit. She earned a BA in American Studies from Occidental College in 2007. Benna is a native Oregonian, her family has been involved in the Portland arts community for four generations. Benna joined the Board after helping to present PDX Pop Now’s first ever fundraising event in 2009. She is excited to be serving on the PDX Pop Now! Board of Directors for a second year.

Ed Thanhouser, Booking Coordinator is a Portland-born writer and musician, who graduated from Reed College class of 2006. He plays music with two local groups, Winterhaven and Space Panther. He writes regularly for local music website, thisheartwillburnrightout.com. He volunteered with the 2009 PDX Pop Now! Booking Committee, CD Compilation Selection Committee, acted as Deputy Volunteer Coordinator, and assisted with stage managing at the festival.

Hannah Rosenau, Volunteer Coordinator helped create the flying records artwork at PDX Pop Now! 2009 and was hooked. After graduating with a BA in Women Studies, she has worked with non-profits ever since; currently with Planned Parenthood. A Portland native, she has attended shows for years and is thrilled to be on the board for 2010.

Jacob Fain, Outreach Coordinator is a case manager for the youth mentoring program Big Brothers Big Sisters. A native Texan, Jacob moved to Portland in 2003 to attend Portland State University as a Communication Studies student.

Jesse Studenberg, Compilation Coordinator has been playing music in Portland since moving here in 1999, most notably as a founding member of the Portland indie-rock band Point Juncture, WA. He has been involved with PDX Pop since 2005 and took on distribution responsibilities for the 2009 compilation before being asked to join the board as the Compilation Coordinator for 2010. During the day he runs Full Life, an art, recreational, and vocational program for adults with developmental disabilities. He currently writes music and plays shows under the name Bazillionaire.

Nick Johnson, Sponsorship Coordinator currently works as an Operations Intern at Intel and Marketing Intern at DEEPcart. He is a native Oregonian. After graduating from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington in 2007, Nick returned to Portland and began volunteering for PDX Pop Now! This is his fourth year as a volunteer and second year as the Fundraising and Sponsorship Coordinator.

Saffron Peters, Logistics Coordinator is the Station Manager for Portland Radio Authority and is now in her second year on the Board of Directors for PDX Pop Now!

Scott Becker, Web and Tech Coordinator grew up in Tampa, Florida and moved to Portland in January of 2008. A long time musician and ardent supporter of live, local music, he soon lucked upon PDX Pop Now! After volunteering with the booking committee for two years, he joined the board as Web and Tech Coordinator. He graduated from the University of South Florida in 2003, and works at WeoGeo as a web developer.

Seth Kaufman, Project Manager was born in West Virginia in 1968 and moved to Portland in 2006, just in time to see the third installment of the PDX Pop Now! festival. He was so impressed by a free, all-ages, three-day festival that he volunteered for a variety of jobs over the next year. Seth joined the PDX Pop Now! board in 2007 and coordinated the 2008 compilation CD. Seth has worked for MotoSport.com since 2005 and is currently an e-commerce manager there.

Stacey Atwell, Art and Design Coordinator heard the first PDX POP Now! compilation in 2004, while still living in Connecticut, and was totally impressed with the Portland music scene. After moving west in 2006 she volunteered for PPN! for the first time and has been involved ever since. She joined the board in 2008 and took on the role of design/art coordinator. A web developer by trade with a deep passion for music, she is also the mother of two musically inclined teenagers.
